The Dura-Mag Variable Speed Drive (VSD) system now provides a unique combination of
simplicity and precision control for all types of oil field pumping systems. Two
components, the Dura-Mag VSD and any one of our Series 1111 or 11 control packages,
have been specifically designed to drive any pumping unit for optimum production and
minimum wear.
The field proven Dura-Mag VSD mounts on to the shaft of a standard electric motor or gas
engine, making it perfect for retro-fit applications. The driven input fan/armature assembly,
mounted on the motor shaft, rotates at constant motor speed; the driving output sheave
rotates freely, connected only by bearings to the input member. A DC voltage from one of
our controls is applied through the brushless transmitter to the control coil; the two
assemblies become magnetically coupled, causing the output sheave to rotate with the
motor. The speed of the output sheave can be varied by changing the voltage applied,
thus changing the strength of the magnetic field. A magnetic pulse pickup provides a
speed and position feedback.
